Finglu Canal sets four world records in waterway engineering

During the launch ceremony, officials highlighted four global firsts achieved by the Finglu Canal project. The waterway boasts the strongest navigation capacity among similar canals worldwide, allowing the heaviest vessels in its class to pass safely.

Lock operations set a record for the fastest transit time, cutting waiting periods dramatically. In addition, the canal's water‑saving lock system creates the greatest water‑level differential ever recorded, while the inland water‑saving lock is the largest of its kind on the planet.

These milestones underline China’s advancing expertise in large‑scale hydraulic engineering. The canal not only enhances domestic logistics but also strengthens the country's role in the China‑ASEAN shared future community by providing a more efficient route for international trade.

By linking the inland production zones of Guizhou directly to the sea, the canal is expected to accelerate the flow of goods, support regional development, and reinforce the strategic objectives of the Western Land‑Sea New Corridor.
