The farmer of Punjab was the owner of the train in 2007
This incident is in the year 2007 and the farmer of Katana village in Ludhiana district of Punjab is associated with Sampoorna Singh. Sampoorna Singh became the owner of the Swarn Shatabdi Express running between Delhi to Amritsar for a few hours.
Actually, at that time the railway was acquiring land for the construction of Ludhiana-Chandigarh railway line. It also included the land of Sampoorna Singh. Railways gave them compensation at the rate of Rs 25 lakh per acre.
Later, Sampoorna Singh came to know that the railway is paying compensation at the rate of Rs 71 lakh per acre in another village nearby. He filed a petition in the court against this discrimination.
Railways had to pay more compensation
After the court order, the compensation amount was increased to Rs 50 lakh per acre to Sampoorna Singh, which later increased to Rs 1.47 crore per acre. Railways had to pay this amount to Sampoorna Singh by the year 2015.
However, the railway could not pay full compensation on time. On this, District and Sessions Judge Jaspal Verma issued an order to seize the train and station master’s office at Ludhiana railway station in the year 2017.
