Fake Job Offers Trap Indian Travelers in Malaysia, Says Delhi Advisory

Delhi – A fresh advisory from the Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has drawn attention to a rising pattern of fraudulent job offers targeting Indian citizens intending to travel to Malaysia. These counterfeit proposals entice individuals with promises of high‑paying positions, only to leave them stranded without legal status.

The advisory noted that many Indians, lured by such schemes, arrive on the 30‑day visa‑free programme meant for tourists. When the promised employment fails to materialise, they exceed the visa duration, becoming illegal migrants vulnerable to exploitation, detention and prosecution.

Officials stressed that the visa‑free entry is strictly for tourism, family visits and short social trips. To avoid complications, travellers must present a confirmed return ticket, a hotel booking and a digital arrival card filed online at least three days before landing.

Passport validity of a minimum six months is also mandatory. The High Commission warned that travelling without a work permit or a Visa With Reference (VDR) for employment purposes is a violation of Malaysian law.

The diplomatic mission appealed to Indian job‑seekers to verify any employment offers through official channels and to secure the necessary legal documentation before embarking on international travel.
