EU moves against Russia after US diesel deal, adds 1,600 measures
In a statement released on X, the EU said its foreign ministers have adopted an unprecedented suite of roughly 1,600 sanctions aimed at weakening Russia's defence industry.
The sanctions list, the largest to date, includes more than half of its entries connected to ballistic missile production and the logistical networks that sustain it.
Officials explained that the measures are intended to make weapon manufacturing more costly and time‑consuming for Moscow, thereby limiting its capacity to support the war in Ukraine. The timing follows a controversial diesel supply agreement between the United States and Russia, which raised concerns that Russian revenues could be bolstered by the deal.
The EU's coordinated response signals a unified stance among European nations on the Ukraine conflict.
