EU Calls Black Sea Drone Strike a Hybrid Warfare Signal

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described the Romanian operation against the Black Sea drone as a clear indication of hybrid warfare tactics. She stressed that the European Union must reinforce its defence capabilities to counter emerging threats.

Von der Leyen referenced the "Readiness 2030" agenda, which aims to mobilise up to €800 billion for defence projects, including the European Drone Defence Initiative and the Eastern Flank Watch. These programmes are intended to boost production of defence equipment across member states, ensuring a rapid and united response to hybrid threats.
