Escalation in Gulf: US bombs Iran, Iranian military warns of regional oil shutdown

American aircraft conducted a coordinated bombing campaign against Iranian strategic sites on the evening of July 23. The Central Command posted on a public platform that the strikes are intended to reduce Iran's threat to civilian navigation in the Gulf.

President Trump reiterated his earlier promise that any Iranian aggression in the Strait of Hormuz would result in U.S. strikes on critical Iranian infrastructure, including bridges and power plants near Tehran.

In response, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s central headquarters warned that any U.S. attack on Iranian facilities would compel Tehran to halt all oil exports from West Asia and target regional oil, gas, electricity, and economic assets.

Polling conducted last week showed a clear split in American public opinion, with a majority opposing a war against Iran and a minority supporting it.

The attacks come after a previous night’s U.S. air raid that activated Iranian air defenses and was followed by a missile launch toward a Jordanian city near the Israeli border, prompting warnings from Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
