Emergency Teams and Mine‑Risk Education to Protect 36,680 Residents

As part of the joint clearance agreement, fast‑acting emergency response units will be established throughout Nangarhar, Kunar and Nuristan. These units are equipped to react immediately to any accidental detonations and provide medical aid on site.

Concurrently, a mine‑risk education programme will be rolled out to 36,680 individuals living near identified hazard zones. The curriculum covers safe movement, identification of suspicious objects, and procedures for reporting suspected devices to authorities. Community workshops, school sessions and radio broadcasts will ensure that the safety message reaches the most vulnerable populations, especially children who are often the victims of unexploded ordnance.

The integrated approach of rapid response and education aims to cut the number of civilian casualties, which historically have included many school‑age children.
