Eight vessels rerouted after Iranian authorities intervene in Hormoz Strait traffic

Iranian state‑run media cited fresh maritime‑tracking data showing that eight ships attempting to cross the Hormoz Strait alongside Oman's coast were ordered to turn back on Saturday.

According to the report, a crude oil tanker, two petroleum product tankers and a bulk carrier initially entered the narrow channel but changed course after receiving directives from Tehran.

The vessels were later observed heading northward, using an alternative sea route to avoid the contested area. Bloomberg reported that some ships had reached the tip of the Musandam Peninsula before abruptly altering their direction.

These movements come after Iran tightened its monitoring of the Strait following the joint Israeli‑U.S. strikes on February 28, which led Tehran to bar ships linked to the two countries from safe passage.
