Domestic ACV H-562 enhances Indian Coast Guard's operational reach

New Delhi, 23 September — The Indian Coast Guard has expanded its operational envelope by inducting the home‑grown air‑cushion vehicle ACV H‑562. Built entirely in India, this is the second indigenous hovercraft to be commissioned, reinforcing the service’s maritime security posture.

The ACV H‑562 is especially suited for littoral zones, mangrove creeks and other shallow environments where conventional vessels struggle. Its high‑speed, low‑draft design enables rapid deployment for anti‑smuggling patrols, disaster relief and coastal surveillance.

Experts in defence technology see the move as evidence of India’s advancing capability to design and fabricate sophisticated naval platforms without external assistance. Such self‑reliant procurement aligns with national policy goals of indigenisation and strategic autonomy.

The commissioning took place shortly after a high‑level commanders’ conference, where senior officers discussed infrastructure upgrades, training enhancements and the importance of domestic technology.
