Diplomatic Talks Emphasized Over Unilateral US Visa Measures

South Africa urged the United States to engage through established diplomatic mechanisms after Washington announced a new policy that would bar visas for officials accused of race‑based discrimination.

Foreign Minister Marko Rubio of the US warned of alleged racial crimes, land‑seizure threats and hate‑filled rhetoric targeting Afrikaners and other minority communities in South Africa.

Lamola responded that such accusations are unfounded and that the South African government does not engage in discriminatory land grabs or mistreatment of any population group.

He stressed that only constructive conversations between government representatives can resolve the tensions, and that any one‑sided steps weaken the foundation of bilateral cooperation.

Both sides continue their discussions, aiming to preserve democratic values, constitutional integrity and a peaceful partnership.
