Diplomacy Over Disputes: Jayashankar Highlights Balanced Trade with China

In Manila, Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and reiterated that the two economies must work toward a balanced trade structure. He urged that any bilateral differences be addressed through diplomacy and constructive dialogue rather than allowing them to morph into contentious issues.

Jaishankar cited the October 2024 leaders’ summit and the subsequent Tianjin meeting as milestones that have steadily improved relations. He said that mutual respect, shared goals, and sensitivity to each nation’s concerns form the foundation of a stable partnership that can influence the multipolar order of Asia and the world.

The minister stressed that peace and stability in border areas are a prerequisite for deeper cooperation. He called for sustained attention to these regions, encouraging both sides to support mechanisms that foster security and confidence.

He concluded by acknowledging China’s contribution to India’s recent diplomatic initiatives, highlighting that cooperation on global challenges remains essential in a volatile geopolitical climate.
