Deportations Surge: China, USA and Bangladesh Among Top Foreigners in Nepal

A comprehensive five‑year review by Nepal’s immigration department shows that Chinese passport holders dominate the deportation statistics from 2021 through 2025. The agency reported 695 Chinese nationals expelled, the highest figure among all foreign groups.

Trailing behind were 191 Americans and 145 Bangladeshis. The United Kingdom and Pakistan completed the top five rankings. The department attributes the high numbers to repeated breaches of visa conditions, illegal employment, and other non‑compliance issues.

The report highlights that Nepal expelled a cumulative 2,267 foreigners over the five‑year period, with Chinese citizens representing roughly 31 % of that total. In 2025 alone, 120 Chinese individuals were removed, making up 22.94 % of the 523 deportations recorded that year. 2023 saw an especially sharp rise, with 209 Chinese nationals – nearly half of all foreign expulsions for that year.

Yearly data indicate that 2022 was the most aggressive year for removals, tallying 570 foreign nationals, while 2021 marked the low point with only 218. The department reiterated its reliance on the FNMIS and NepaliPort systems to track visa compliance and promised stricter penalties for repeat violators.
