Democratic Lawmakers Question Trump’s Commitment to Ukraine

Senate Democratic leader Dick Durbin criticized the president for “once again bowing to Kremlin pressure,” noting that the late Lindsey Graham, former Senator John McCain and Ronald Reagan would be dismayed by the decision.

House Foreign Affairs Committee member Gregory Meeks reminded that the administration has long possessed the authority to enforce sanctions against Russia, but chose not to use it.

Representative Jim McGovern asked what promises, if any, President Putin might have offered President Trump in exchange for the relief, cautioning that continued imports could embolden Russian aggression rather than curb it.

The remarks underscore a broader concern that the waiver could undermine U.S. credibility with allies in Eastern Europe.
