Death toll climbs to 1,252 as Nepal flood search continues

The catastrophic floods that swept across central Nepal have pushed the confirmed death count to 1,252, while 4,216 people remain missing, according to the latest figures released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

The hardest‑hit district is Chitwan, where 355 bodies have been recovered. Nawalparasi East reported 218 deaths, Nawalparasi West 208, and Nuwakot 177. The disaster’s origin point, Rasuwa, accounted for 127 fatalities. Additional casualties were found in Gorkha, Dhading and Tanahun districts.

Only 95 of the recovered bodies have been positively identified and handed over to families. Authorities continue large‑scale rescue and relief operations, focusing on the thousands still missing, including hydro‑electric project staff, security forces, and other civilians.
