Deadly Escalation in Yemen: Multiple Fatalities in Lahj, Taiz Attacks

A critical frontline extending toward the southern hub of Aden has witnessed a sharp uptick in hostilities, causing widespread casualties across Lahj and Taiz. Military insiders and affiliated news outlets have confirmed a series of deadly operations.

On Tuesday, a Houthi-launched barrage of two ballistic missiles impacted a busy public bazaar in the state-administered Lahj province. Casualty figures indicate one death and ten injuries following the explosion.

Simultaneously, a rebel-aligned television network detailed an airstrike on a rubber slipper production facility situated north of Taiz. The broadcast announced three dead and eight hurt, pinpointing Saudi fighter jets as the perpetrators. Local emergency services were engaged in fire suppression efforts.

In the Ash-Shamaytain area of southern Taiz, a separate aerial offensive resulted in two deaths, including a female victim, alongside five injured individuals.

These strikes coincide with a major troop buildup and renewed offensive activity along the Taiz-Lahj axis. Rebel units have notably breached defensive lines around the Al-Maqatirah hills, driving forward into the Ta’izz district. This government-held territory holds immense logistical value for troop movements toward Aden.

Coalition-backed national troops are engaging heavily to counter the rebel momentum, resulting in intensified crossfire and sky-raids throughout multiple governorates. The insurgents have matched these efforts with cross-border drone and ballistic campaigns directed at state strongholds and regional territories.

Despite the heavy fighting, Houthi representatives issued a strict denial regarding new attacks on neighboring soil on Tuesday. They also quashed rumors alleging an attempted strike on the holy city of Mecca.

Addressing the situation on a digital platform, Houthi military affairs chief Yahya Saraya emphasized, "Our military has carried out zero operations aimed at Saudi territory today."

The region has suffered continuous instability since the final months of 2014, when insurgents seized the capital and dominated the northern territories. In response, a Saudi-led multinational coalition intervened in 2015 to support the sovereign government. This intervention triggered a prolonged era of armed conflict, governmental deadlock, and a devastating public health emergency.
