Cuba’s Digital Upgrade Funded by Global South‑South Initiative

Beijing reports that on July 9 the Cuban capital witnessed the official start of a three‑way partnership involving China, the UNDP and Cuba. The “Digital Change of Cuban Society” project, financed through the Global Development and South‑South Cooperation Fund, seeks to modernise Cuba’s digital and telecommunications framework.

Communications Minister Mayra Arevich highlighted the project’s potential to accelerate digitalisation, reinforce network resilience and improve public service delivery. UNDP representative Gabriel Botino assured that the programme will be executed with high quality, offering support across implementation, procurement and contract management stages.

Ambassador Hua Xin of China called the collaboration a pioneering step in China‑Cuba relations, underscoring the importance of South‑South cooperation and China’s pledge to uphold multilateralism.
