Crown Prince Meets Turkish President, Pakistani PM in Jeddah

On Friday, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will host Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the Saudi capital of Jeddah. The high‑level summit is expected to culminate in the signing of a joint defence pact among the three nations.

Erdogan arrived in Saudi Arabia on Thursday alongside Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir, extending the visit through Saturday. Pakistan’s foreign ministry confirmed the delegation’s stay from August 6 to 8, noting the meeting’s importance despite heightened Gulf tensions.

The trilateral agreement aims to reinforce regional security after the latest US‑Iran clash, which has strained maritime routes in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz. Both Saudi and Pakistani officials have highlighted the pact’s role in countering emerging threats and stabilising the broader Middle East.

The deal also builds on the 2025 Saudi‑Pakistani joint defence pact, reflecting a deepening military relationship that leverages Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities within a broader coalition.
