Crossing the Line of Control: How a teenage girl from POJK was captured

A teenage girl from the Pakistan‑occupied side of Kashmir inadvertently crossed the Line of Control into India’s Rajouri district on 3 October. The Indian Army, conducting routine surveillance in the Lam sector, detected her near the border and stopped her before she could move further into Indian territory.

After a brief interrogation, the soldiers placed her in custody and identified her as S. Azim, a 17‑year‑old resident of Khuiyeta, POJK. The army then transferred her to the Noshra police station for a comprehensive investigation.

Authorities are reviewing the incident to verify the girl’s claim of accidental crossing. If the investigation confirms no malicious intent, she will be returned to POJK via one of the approved crossing points such as Chakri Da Bag, Baramulla/Uri, or the Simri sector, where both civil and military officials are present.

The incident highlights the continuous monitoring efforts of the Indian forces along the LOC, which aim to detect unauthorized crossings while ensuring the safety of civilians who may inadvertently breach the border.
