Despite Court Setbacks, Washington Claims Tariff Policy Strengthening Manufacturing

In Washington, the trade representative explained that even after the Supreme Court nullified a sizable portion of the tariff program, the administration does not regret its approach. Greer said lawsuits are expected whenever a government seeks to alter entrenched trade practices.

He added that the United States is now seeing tangible signs of a manufacturing resurgence: factories are attracting fresh capital, wages for production workers are improving, and overall industrial capacity is on an upward trajectory.

Greer warned that the benefits of the tariff policy will not be instantaneous but will manifest over time as companies adjust their supply chains and as the trade imbalance gradually narrows. He expressed confidence that the American public will eventually recognize the positive impact on jobs and earnings.

The envoy concluded that the United States remains ready to take “necessary steps” against any nation that does not align with its trade objectives, while keeping the primary focus on American interests.
