Cooling Stations, Free Water Added as Heat Peaks for Independence Day

In response to temperatures climbing above 100°F, the Department of Homeland Security has bolstered hydration and cooling options for the July 4 festivities. Free, reusable water bottles may be filled at numerous hydration stations placed throughout the National Mall and surrounding fairgrounds.

Additional misting zones, shaded rest areas and a rapid‑entry lane for guests without bags will help speed up security checks. Medical units are stationed on site to treat any heat‑related illness, with special attention urged for children, seniors, pregnant women and individuals with pre‑existing conditions.

Officials advise attendees to wear loose, light‑colored clothing and wide‑brimmed hats, and to take regular breaks in the air‑conditioned tents. The comprehensive safety plan aims to keep the celebration both memorable and secure.
