Coalition Claims Destruction of Key Houthi Military Resources
The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen says it has launched a significant campaign to disable critical Houthi military resources.
In a post on the social media platform X on Sunday, local time, coalition spokesperson Turki al-Malki confirmed the operation. He said it began on Sunday morning and was a direct reaction to repeated Houthi attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
Al-Malki asserted that the Houthi rebels were using these resources to back their military operations and expand their capabilities, especially their ballistic missile and drone programs.
No further details were given about the operation's location or the extent of its results.
Meanwhile, local residents and a security official in Aden, Yemen's southern port city, said a Houthi missile fell near a government military base on Sunday, producing a loud blast.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the missile landed near the military facility in the Al-Buraiqa district of western Aden. The facility was being used by Saudi-supported Yemeni government troops. No injuries or deaths have been reported.
Witnesses said the explosion was loud enough to be heard in several parts of the city. The Houthi group did not immediately comment on the incident.
Aden serves as the temporary seat of Yemen's internationally recognized government and has been hit by Houthi missile and drone strikes in recent days.
The conflict in Yemen dates back to late 2014, when Houthi rebels seized the capital Sanaa and large areas of the north. The Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 to support the government.
Last week, al-Malki said on X that a drone launched by the Houthis had been intercepted and destroyed in the Makkah region. Makkah is the holiest city in Islam.
The Houthis have denied launching any attack on Saudi Arabia.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, in a statement on X, rejected the Saudi claim about the drone over Makkah as "false."
Saree stated that his group had not conducted "any operation toward Saudi Arabian territory" on Friday.
