Chinese Government Reports Record Growth in AI-Driven Manufacturing
At a news briefing in Beijing on July 20, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s chief engineer, Wang Weiming, announced that China's innovation output has accelerated significantly this calendar year. AI‑plus applications are now deeply embedded in state‑owned manufacturing units, with AI usage rates exceeding 30 % among firms earning more than 20 million yuan annually. The open‑source AI large‑model ecosystem has recorded over 10 billion downloads worldwide, positioning China at the forefront of key scientific initiatives. The briefing also highlighted the establishment of 114 new mandatory national standards and 1,403 sector‑specific standards, which are expected to drive high‑quality development, renew essential technologies, and replace outdated equipment on a large scale. These steps are meant to pivot legacy production toward emerging kinetic energy modalities, boosting the robustness and security of the country’s industrial and supply‑chain frameworks.
