Chinese Envoy Highlights Funding Gaps and Proposes Four Action Points
Speaking to the UN General Assembly’s Second Committee on 5 October, Sun Lei, China’s deputy permanent representative, warned that the world is falling short on the financing needed to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. She cited the expanding North‑South development divide, inadequate resources and a decelerating development rate as signs that the global community must act now. Sun’s four recommendations include: maintaining a strategic focus that embeds the 2030 agenda into every country’s policies, increasing investment in sectors vital to human welfare such as poverty alleviation, food and energy security, and environmental protection, adopting a results‑driven collaboration model and ensuring that developed countries deliver on their development and climate finance promises, and strengthening solidarity to forge an inclusive, balanced global partnership for development.
