In a press briefing, the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China condemned the latest U.S. defense department update that added several Chinese research establishments to a restriction list. The ministry said the United States is “inflating the concept of national security” and deliberately erecting barriers that politicise, weaponise and automate scientific collaboration. Such measures, the spokesperson warned, damage normal scientific and technical exchange and run counter to worldwide cooperation trends. China appealed to the United States to drop the stigma, correct the misstep promptly, and treat Chinese research bodies with fairness, justice and non‑discrimination.
