China Urges Reopening of Hormuz Strait as Iran and US Seek Dialogue

Beijing – In a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for the swift reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Wang emphasized that all parties should take “effective steps” to restore normal shipping traffic, warning that heightened tension could spill over into Yemen and the Red Sea.

Wang also urged both Iran and the United States to engage in “substantive talks” on issues of mutual concern, positioning China as a facilitator for de‑escalation. The Chinese side reiterated that it does not wish to see regional tensions expand and stressed the need for diplomatic solutions.
