China Maintains 95% Basic Health Insurance Coverage for 2025

Beijing, July 16 – The National Healthcare Security Administration’s 2025 statistical bulletin confirms that China’s basic health insurance will continue to cover 95 % of the population, enrolling 1.331 billion people by the end of the year.

The insured employee base expands to 388,561,200, an addition of 9,077,800 over the previous year, representing a 2.4 % growth rate. The 14th Five‑Year Plan has seen an average yearly increase of 880,000 insured workers.

Flexible‑employment staff and other categories now number 69,820,000 in the basic scheme, a rise of two million since the plan’s inception.

The release also records 13.3 billion instances of citizens receiving treatment away from their home region, with total costs reaching 32.95 trillion yuan. Inter‑provincial direct settlement for hospital admissions has climbed to 90 %.
