China Criticised After India Updates Names of 27 Arunachal Sites

India’s recent decision to revise the names of 27 locations in Arunachal Pradesh has drawn sharp rebuke from Beijing. The changes were incorporated into the official Survey of India map and announced by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ranveer Jaiswal, who reiterated that the state is an integral, indivisible part of the country.

China, which has depicted Arunachal as part of its “South Tibet” claim since 2017, condemned the move as an unfounded unilateral act. The Global Times argued that such actions could further strain the already fragile India‑China border situation, providing no benefit to Delhi.

The Indian government, however, maintains that the renaming is a routine administrative measure and part of a broader effort to standardise geographical data. It also reminded that Arunachal Pradesh has always been under Indian jurisdiction, a stance reiterated in an April statement that labeled any Chinese renaming attempts as illegal and intolerable.

Both sides continue to exchange diplomatic warnings, with New Delhi emphasizing that the factual integrity of Arunachal’s status cannot be altered by external assertions.
