China Boosts Agricultural Imports with Record Fruit Shipments

China’s Ministry of Commerce reported a sharp jump in fruit imports between May and June 2024. Imports from Africa rose 23.5 percent compared with the same period in 2023. Apple shipments surged by 89.6 percent, while orange imports grew 27.9 percent.

These figures illustrate the rapid expansion of China’s appetite for high‑quality fresh produce, supported by liberal trade measures and a growing middle‑class consumer base seeking healthier food options.
