China’s Annual Grain Yield Surpasses 70 Crore Ton Milestone Again
Beijing, 17 October – China reported that its yearly grain harvest has again crossed the 70 crore‑ton threshold, marking a second consecutive year of such high output. The per‑person grain stock in the country is now more than 500 kg, a level that sits above the global mean and reflects steady progress toward national food security.
These statistics were shared during the World Food Day 2026 celebrations in Hefei, Anhui Province, which also served as the flagship event for the National Food Security Promotion Week. Liu Huanshin, director of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, emphasized that China nourishes roughly one‑fifth of the world’s populace while managing under 9 % of the planet’s arable land—an achievement that underscores China’s role in maintaining worldwide food stability.
Liu highlighted that, in recent years, China has not only expanded its total grain‑production capability but also reinforced the supply chain that distributes grain from rural producers to urban markets. The government has further advanced the development of grain‑related standards and heightened international exchanges in the agricultural domain.
A comprehensive framework now controls grain purchase, storage, processing, and distribution, ensuring cohesion across the sector. More than 400 national standards and 300 industry specifications have been released for grain and oilseed sectors, complemented by 70 international standards, ten of which originated from Chinese leadership. These benchmarks are designed to streamline global grain commerce and curb waste.
