China Adds Nearly 520,000 5G Nodes, Now 39.7% of All Towers

Beijing – According to official figures, China’s telecom sector maintained robust growth during the first eight months of 2024. The tally of 5G base stations climbed to 5,190,000 by the end of August, representing 39.7% of the country’s total mobile base stations. Fixed‑line broadband connections now serve 704 million households, an increase of 13.65 million over the end‑2023 level. Mobile subscriptions across the three core operators and China Broadband Net totalled 184.9 million, with 5G‑compatible devices accounting for 131.1 million users. Mobile internet traffic surged to 2.97 billion gigabytes, a 17.3% rise compared with the same eight‑month span last year.
