Ceremonial Honor Highlights Indo‑Nepal Defence Cooperation

New Delhi – The conferment of an honorary Nepali General rank to Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth on 17 August marks another chapter in the robust defence relationship between India and Nepal. The ceremony, held at Nepal’s presidential palace, was attended by senior military and diplomatic personnel from both nations.

The practice of swapping ceremonial ranks dates back several decades and serves as an institutional expression of confidence and camaraderie among the two forces. It reinforces the continuity of a partnership that has survived changes in leadership and geopolitical shifts.

Experts say the honor not only celebrates historic ties but also paves the way for intensified collaboration in joint training, disaster response, and border security. General Seth’s visit, scheduled through 19 August, will include discussions on expanding existing defence agreements and exploring new areas of cooperation.
