CDC and FDA Accelerate Recall of Contaminated Produce

In response to the expanding cyclospora outbreak, the CDC and FDA have stepped up product tracing and voluntary recalls. Suppliers are being contacted to retrieve suspect lettuce shipments, and additional testing is being performed on related fresh produce such as cilantro, red onions and avocados that appeared in a CDC notice. Officials say the goal is to keep contaminated items off store shelves while reinforcing sanitation standards throughout the distribution network.
