Casualties rise after Iranian attack on tankers in Strait of Hormuz

Iranian cruise missiles struck two UAE‑flagged tankers, Mombasa and Al Bahia, as they passed through the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz on July 14. According to the UAE defence ministry, the attack killed one Indian crew member and wounded eight others, four of whom are in serious condition. The wounded include six Indians and two Ukrainians. Fires erupted on both ships, damaging the cargo, but were later contained. The ministry condemned the incident as a grave breach of international law and affirmed that the UAE is prepared to respond to any further threats to its maritime security, residents and strategic assets.
