BRICS 2025 Leadership to Shift to China, Xi Calls for Global Diplomatic Unity

At a press briefing in New Delhi, President Xi Jinping confirmed that China will assume the BRICS presidency in 2025 and host the 19th summit of the grouping. He said the country will leverage the position to secure broad consensus and devise strategic plans for the alliance’s next phase.

Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, posted the president’s remarks on X, stressing that China intends to launch the third golden decade of BRICS collaboration together with its partners.

Addressing the volatile situation in the Middle East, Xi lamented the ongoing war’s devastation, labeling it contrary to the shared interests of nations worldwide. He appealed to all sides for a political resolution and a comprehensive cease‑fire, assuring that China will cooperate with fellow BRICS members to uphold peace and stability in the region.

The statement follows the 18th BRICS summit, where leaders warned of heightened global polarisation and the need for stronger political and diplomatic responses to safeguard peace. The "2026 New Delhi Declaration" called for collective security measures, conflict‑prevention strategies, and greater involvement of regional organisations in dispute resolution.

With the upcoming chairmanship, China aims to reinforce the BRICS bloc’s contribution to international peace, security, and multilateral development.
