Bodhi Tree Sapling Planted as Symbol of Enduring India‑Indonesia Ties

During a diplomatic ceremony in Jakarta, a bodhi sapling was planted at the Nalanda Institute to mark the deepening partnership between India and Indonesia. The planting accompanied the gifting of a replica of a 9th‑century Nalanda copper plate, an artefact that testifies to historic sea‑trade and cultural exchanges between the two regions. Ambassador Sandeep Chakravarty highlighted that the bodhi tree, revered in both Buddhist traditions, represents peace, wisdom and the long‑standing friendship that both nations share. The event forms part of the broader "Tagore‑Devanthara Cultural and Educational Diplomacy Year," a series of initiatives slated from July 2026 through September 2027, encompassing arts, education and scholarship programmes.
