BIMSTEC summit adopts Delhi Declaration on security cooperation

New Delhi, 14 October – The BIMSTEC Home Ministers’ meeting, hosted by India’s Home Minister, concluded with the unanimous adoption of the “Delhi Declaration”. Representatives from all BIMSTEC member states participated in the talks, which focused on strengthening regional security architecture.

The declaration outlines concrete steps to combat terrorism, disrupt drug trafficking networks, and enhance cooperation against money laundering. Each country pledged to share intelligence, conduct joint training exercises, and streamline legal frameworks to tackle cross‑border threats.

Ministerial spokesperson Ranvir Jaiswal emphasized that the declaration reflects a shared commitment to a safer and more resilient region. The outcomes were welcomed by security analysts as a significant boost to BIMSTEC’s collective capabilities.

In related diplomatic activity, India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval had earlier spoken with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary, Mohsin Rejaei, raising concerns over the safety of Indian seafarers – a topic that aligns with the broader security agenda highlighted in the BIMSTEC declaration.
