BIMSTEC Home Ministers’ First Meeting Ends with Delhi Declaration

The first BIMSTEC Home Ministers’ conference was held in New Delhi on Tuesday, chaired by India’s Home Minister Amit Shah. Nepal’s Home Minister Sudhan Gurung participated alongside his counterparts from the Bay of Bengal region.

The gathering focused on enhancing security collaboration, improving border management, and building a coordinated response to international crime and natural disasters. Gurung thanked India for its hospitality and for the solidarity shown during Nepal’s recent floods and landslides.

A key outcome of the summit was the adoption of the “Delhi Declaration,” a document that reaffirms the commitment of BIMSTEC members to promote peace, stability, and shared prosperity in the Bay of Bengal area. The declaration also calls for a joint task force to strengthen disaster‑relief capabilities and to ensure timely information sharing on security threats.
