Bhutan receives ₹237.83 crore from India under high‑impact community scheme

Bhutan has been handed a second tranche of ₹237.83 crore by India, a move aimed at accelerating its High‑Impact Community Development Programme. The cheque was presented by Indian Ambassador Sandeep Arya to Finance Minister Lyonpo Leki Dorji in Thimphu on July 29. The disbursement is part of the India‑Bhutan Development Cooperation Programme, which funds 292 projects touching all 205 gewogs. In a joint review, both governments assessed project milestones, noting gains in potable water provision, irrigation canals, rural road networks, and agricultural land enhancement. The Bhutanese minister thanked New Delhi, emphasizing the positive change for local communities and the deepening of bilateral ties. Under the 13th Five‑Year Plan (2024‑29), India has pledged ₹1,000 crore, of which ₹735 crore (73.5 %) has already been released. The HICDP portfolio also includes chain‑link fencing, agricultural marketing facilities, primary health units and semi‑urban infrastructure. Out of 571 scheduled initiatives, 141 have reached completion while 430 remain under construction.
