Berlin discussions underscore 75 years of India‑Germany ties

2026 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Germany. In Berlin, Ambassador Ajit Gupté engaged with senior German legislators to review the progress made and outline future priorities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent meeting with Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the G‑7 summit reinforced the bilateral agenda, covering trade, investment, defence, green technologies, innovation, education and mobility of people. Both leaders welcomed the upcoming 8th India‑Germany Inter‑Governmental Consultation scheduled for later this year.

The ambassadors’ talks highlighted the newly signed defence industry cooperation roadmap and the introduction of a transit‑visa waiver for Indian citizens traveling via Germany, signalling a continued commitment to deepen ties on multiple fronts.
