Beijing Pledges Support to Nepal Amid Landslide Tragedy

President Xi Jin‑ping addressed Nepal’s President Ram Chandra Poudel on August 28, extending official condolences after a massive landslide tore through the Chulong‑Rasowa border area. The disaster caused extensive damage to homes and infrastructure, with many families still unaccounted for. Xi assured that China will continue to assist in locating missing persons, evacuating survivors, and delivering medical aid. He underlined that the two neighboring countries share a common destiny and that China stands prepared to contribute resources, expertise and manpower to Nepal’s emergency response. The message was echoed later by Premier Li Qiang, who sent his own sympathy to Prime Minister Balen Shah, confirming coordinated assistance from Beijing.
