Beijing Import Fair Fuels Trade Growth Amid Global Uncertainty

The China International Import Expo (CIIE) returned to Beijing on November 8, offering a vivid illustration of how the world’s second‑largest economy is leveraging openness to drive trade growth.

Participation surged to an unprecedented level, with 148 countries and regions represented and 4,142 foreign firms exhibiting their products and services. The fair recorded a milestone of over 300 Fortune Global 500 companies, and roughly 200 exhibitors sustained a nine‑year streak of continuous involvement.

U.S. participants retained the largest pavilion space for the eighth consecutive edition, reflecting sustained American interest in the Chinese consumer base. More than 480 highlighted products made their debut, ranging from Asian first‑look items to innovations displayed in China for the very first time, setting a fresh record for the expo.

Global media outlets praised the event as a “golden gateway” for multinational corporations aiming to capitalize on China’s expansive market opportunities. The expo’s timing coincides with profound worldwide changes, mounting challenges to economic globalization, and growing concerns over imbalanced development.

The World Openness Report 2026, published during the expo, indicated that China’s openness index rose by 28.18 % from 1990 through 2025, placing the nation among the top ranks of open economies worldwide.

Since the inaugural edition, the CIIE has drawn more than 27,000 companies from over 180 nations, with estimated transaction values surpassing $5.8 trillion. The continual flow of showcased goods into actual trade and investment deals highlights the expo’s role as a catalyst for global commerce.
