Bangladesh Reports Hundreds of Suspected Measles Cases as Dengue Surges

Dhaka, 18 July – The Directorate General of Health Services released a grim update on the dual health threats facing Bangladesh. Over the past day, 699 new suspected cases of measles were reported, lifting the total suspected tally to 116,710. Laboratory testing confirmed 74 additional cases, bringing the nationwide confirmed count to 14,318.

Four children with measles‑like symptoms died, increasing the suspected measles death count to 784; confirmed measles deaths remain at 95. Since mid‑March, 99,249 suspected measles patients have been admitted, with 95,529 discharged after recovery.

Dengue fever continues to burden the health system. One more death was recorded, making the year‑to‑date dengue death total 33, while 242 new dengue patients entered hospitals. Health officials have called for heightened mosquito control measures and immediate medical consultation for anyone displaying dengue signs.
