Bangladesh presses India for Sheikh Hasina's extradition amid diplomatic row

The Bangladeshi foreign ministry issued a statement that, while omitting any reference to Rahman's India trip, directly called for the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The note, described as "very controversial" by Veena Sikri, arrives at a time when both sides are measuring the political cost of a prolonged legal battle.

Sikri warned that the extradition timeline could extend beyond two years, a period during which Bangladesh’s internal economic challenges are expected to worsen. She argued that India's cooperation is essential to resolve the deadlock, but the lack of a clear diplomatic signal from New Delhi leaves the issue unresolved.
