Health Emergency: Bangladesh Measles Cases Surge, Over 17,800 Confirmed

Bangladesh's health system is under strain as measles infections climb sharply. The latest data shows 70 additional confirmed cases, pushing the total confirmed tally to 17,800. Suspected infections have surged to 141,776 after 728 new cases were identified in the last 24 hours.

The death toll now stands at 902, with 99 confirmed deaths and 803 suspected fatalities. Analysts from the Global Center for Democratic Governance attribute the outbreak to a breakdown in vaccine supply chains, open‑tender procurement reforms, and missed opportunities for routine child immunisation during the 2024‑25 interim administration.
