Austria's Meinl-Reisinger in India: Talks With S Jaishankar Set for Today

A high-level meeting between India and Austria is scheduled for Wednesday, as Austria's Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, meets her Indian counterpart S Jaishankar in New Delhi.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the meeting will take place at Hyderabad House. Observers view the discussions as a significant step toward strengthening the bilateral partnership between the two countries.

The Austrian minister's official India visit spans October 27 to November 2. Following her schedule in the national capital, she will participate in events in Jaipur between October 29 and November 2.

New Delhi and Vienna are currently working together on a range of areas, such as trade, investment, defence, technology, innovation and contacts between their people. Recent high-level exchanges have helped carry the relationship forward.

The bilateral relationship is steadily strengthening as an 'Advanced Partnership.' This year marks 75 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations, and the anniversary has added to the momentum.

The ties received a boost in July 2024, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Vienna. That trip was the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Austria in 41 years. Later, in April 2026, Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker visited India, and both sides agreed to deepen cooperation, including launching a cyber security dialogue and creating a fast-track arrangement for companies and investors.

Economic ties remain strong, with bilateral trade valued at about $3.47 billion in 2025. India primarily exports electronic goods, textiles and machinery, while it imports heavy machinery, steel and vehicles from Austria.
