Abbas Araghchi urges US accountability over Hormuz blockade

In the same August 11 call, Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi placed the United States at the centre of responsibility for the current instability in the Hormoz Strait.

He argued that the American and Israeli military operations have directly triggered the insecurity threatening merchant traffic.

Araghchi appealed to the international community to hold Washington accountable for the economic and security impact of the waterway's closure.

He also demanded an end to what he described as unlawful U.S. naval blockades and alleged breaches of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
