Anil Menon begins historic spaceflight, joins crew of ten on ISS

Anil Menon’s historic launch marks the first time a NASA astronaut of Indian heritage has traveled to the International Space Station. The eight‑month stint on Expedition 74/75 begins with a smooth docking of Soyuz MS‑29 and positions Menon alongside Russian and European teammates for a diverse research campaign. Menon’s agenda includes producing high‑quality semiconductor crystals in micro‑gravity, a step that could enable larger‑scale production of components for high‑performance computers, artificial‑intelligence systems and advanced medical devices. He will also perform ultrasound imaging assisted by augmented‑reality headsets, potentially reducing the need for on‑ground medical support in future deep‑space missions. In addition, Menon will serve as a test subject for studies of blood‑flow dynamics and age‑related cellular changes in space, contributing data that may lead to novel treatments on Earth.
