Analyst Says Naming Exercise Won’t Derail Indo‑China Relations

Foreign‑policy expert Wail Awad told IANS that the recent naming of 27 geographical entities in Arunachal Pradesh should not be viewed as an escalation that could jeopardise Indo‑China ties.

Awad emphasized that the gesture is primarily a domestic affirmation of territorial integrity rather than an aggressive diplomatic move. He reminded readers that the two Asian giants have maintained a relatively calm border for more than 70 years, apart from a handful of low‑intensity incidents involving "white weapons".

The analyst suggested that ongoing confidence‑building measures, such as periodic border meetings between army officials, are vital for addressing lingering disputes. He praised the historical willingness of both sides to handle contentious issues with political prudence.

In addition to the border narrative, Awad highlighted the importance of India‑Bangladesh relations, stressing that healthy dialogue in the South Asian arena benefits regional security. He warned that any attempt to undermine the friendship between New Delhi and Dhaka could have dangerous repercussions.
