American Embassy Urges Iraq Residents to Follow Safety Protocols

The U.S. diplomatic mission in Baghdad reiterated that Iraq remains under a Level‑4 "Do Not Travel" classification. Given the heightened risk of terrorism, kidnappings, armed conflict and limited emergency assistance, Americans are strongly discouraged from entering Iraq for any reason. The embassy highlighted that non‑essential staff have already begun a phased return, but core operations continue. U.S. citizens are asked to keep mobile devices charged, maintain contact with family, have travel documents ready, and store emergency phone numbers. Enrollment in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) and regular checks of State Department alerts are recommended for added protection.
