In a vibrant display of Australia’s multicultural spirit, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese greeted citizens on Holi, the festival that symbolizes victory of light over darkness and renewal of bonds.
Speaking from Canberra on March 4, Albanese described Holi as a joyous occasion for Hindu and South Asian Australians to unite in celebration. The festival, he said, powerfully conveys that righteousness triumphs over malevolence, while nurturing friendship, mutual forgiveness, and collective harmony.
‘Holi gives us the chance to rejuvenate our relationships and ourselves,’ the PM reflected in his message. Its kaleidoscope of colors now paints celebrations nationwide, evolving from ethnic roots to a mainstream Australian tradition.
Observing the festival’s growing popularity, Albanese praised how it weaves into the tapestry of contemporary Australia. ‘Seeing people from all walks of life embrace this message of love and fresh starts is truly inspiring,’ he noted.
The leader highlighted the enriching contributions of diverse communities. ‘We all gain from the faiths, rituals, stories, dreams, diligence, and dedication that immigrants bring to our shores,’ he affirmed.
Culminating his greetings, Albanese invoked unity: ‘We honor our differences and unite as Australians. Let Holi’s festivities build lasting friendships and communities, keeping our shared bonds strong beyond the colors.’
Echoing similar sentiments globally, Indian PM Narendra Modi took to X to wish prosperity and joy. ‘Holi infuses new vitality into the atmosphere, scattering colors of happiness that fill hearts with delight,’ Modi wrote, urging a celebration of unbridled festivity.
